This was a "Land Grant" college. Many of the states had these colleges; called Agricultural and Engineering Colleges. Father Joseph knew that these colleges had been patterned after the "Gymnasium" in Germany. Just below the "University" level of higher education. Like his superior, Bishop Leo Haig, Father Joseph had the highest regard for anything German. He was one. Catholic students in Germany went to gymnasium colleges without becoming non Catholic. Father Joseph was well educated. I heard him explain the details of the new X-ray machine to Mercy Hospital personnel in Charlotte about 1912.
